- Designing COBOL applications based on business requirements.
- Coding and programming in COBOL language.
- Testing and debugging COBOL code to ensure functionality and efficiency.
- Maintaining and updating existing COBOL applications as needed.
- Collaborating with other team members, such as system analysts and project managers.
- Documenting code and procedures for future reference and troubleshooting.
- Providing support and troubleshooting assistance to end-users as needed.
- Staying updated with industry trends and advancements in COBOL programming.
Requirements
- Strong programming skills in Cobol. This also implies the ability to follow the flow of programs.
- No problems in identifying the function of statements or code associated with programs.
- The ability to be accurate is of high importance, due to the nature of programs it is critical that applied code must be accurate and must perform functions as specified.
- Understanding of the layout of records from a report layout file must be accurate and the programmer must be able to define such output records.
- Programmers must be able to complete tasks accurately without the repeated intervention of a supervisor.
- Programmers must be able to contribute their skills to the tasks at hand, they must be productive and their skills and knowledge for which they are employed should be the key criteria when evaluating their performance.
- Experience relating to investigation and design skills would be beneficial.
- COBOL 5+ years’ experience.
- HOGAN 1 year’s of experience beneficial.
- New program development experience 4 years.
- Coding of programs according to program specifications.
- Investigate required changes/development.
- Document Preliminary Impact Analysis based on requirements and information provided.
- Knowledge sharing with team members.
- Communicate timeously any risk relating to delivery outside the budget or schedule to the Supervisor.
Education
- Minimum: B.Comm, B.Eng, BSC Eng, BSC Informatics or related degree.
- 5 years + experience in programming and system design.
- Familiar with one or more programming languages as appropriate for the specific requirements of the department related to the field.
- System Design experience is advantageous.
